Routines (scheduled reports)
Routines produce scheduled PDF reports from data stored on the appliance. This page explains the built-in routines and how to open their reports.

- Routines that produce scheduled reports

Each run produces a PDF. The appliance records each run in the audit log.
What a routine is
A routine is a trigger plus a list of steps. The trigger is a schedule or an event, such as a number of new tickets. Read steps use stored records. Optional refresh steps read sources before the report runs. Optional summary steps use the model on the appliance.
| Step kind | What it does |
|---|---|
| Read step | Reads stored records, for example source health, configuration changes, open tickets or security findings |
| Refresh step (optional) | Asks sources for a read-only refresh before the report runs |
| Summary step (optional) | Writes a short summary with the model on the appliance |
A routine step can ask sources for a read-only refresh before the report runs. The refresh uses the same read-only checks as a scheduled read.
Built-in routines
All seven built-in routines are paused by default. Activate each routine that you want to run.
| Built-in routine | When it runs by default | What the report covers |
|---|---|---|
| Morning brief | Weekdays, 07:00 | What changed overnight, which sources are healthy, what is open and what recurs |
| Ticket surge triage | After 25 new tickets | The new tickets, what is open, and whether the problem is a known recurring one |
| EOL & renewals watch | When a certificate expiry, end-of-life date or software renewal enters its warning period | Each date once, before it is due |
| Firewall exposure check | Mondays, 06:00 | Stored device configurations: enabled Telnet or HTTP management and default SNMP communities. Any-any checks require stored firewall rules |
| Network health brief | Weekdays, 07:00 | Switches, routers and firewalls that are down, and ports that are configured up but have no link |
| PRTG daily brief | Daily, 07:00 | PRTG sensors that went down or to warning in the last day, grouped by device. Requires a PRTG source. See Supported vendors and protocols |
| Config-change watch | Daily, 06:00 | Changes in the stored configuration history of switches, routers and firewalls |
You can pause or edit a built-in routine. You cannot delete it.
Turn on a built-in routine
- Open Routines.
- Select a routine that shows as paused.
- Read its schedule and its steps.
- If you need a different time, change the schedule.
- Set the routine to Active.
- To test it, run the routine once now.
- Open the run in Run history.
- Read the PDF.
Where the output goes
- Each run writes a PDF. Open it from Run history on the Routines screen.
- The appliance records each run in the audit log. See Audit log and the auditor evidence pack.
Run a security check on a schedule
Add the security scan as a step in a routine to run it on a schedule. Security findings explains what the scan checks and how a person confirms each finding.
