Data retention defaults
The appliance uses the retention limits below. It has no function that purges the audit log or the egress log.
Default periods
| Data | Default retention | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Raw syslog lines | 30 days | The syslog listener receives these lines. See Syslog, SNMP traps and NetFlow. |
| SNMP traps | 30 days | The appliance does not store trap community strings. |
| Raw flow records | 48 hours | The appliance creates 5-minute and hourly summaries from these records. |
| Flow summaries (5-minute and hourly) | 90 days | |
| Firewall per-port observations (Barracuda CloudGen) | 400 days | The appliance builds these summaries from firewall syslog. See Syslog, SNMP traps and NetFlow. |
| Listener drop records | 90 days | Counts of the packets that a listener dropped, for each sender. |
| Interface counter samples | Raw samples for 24 hours, hourly averages for 14 days, daily averages up to 90 days | When NAPALM getters supply interface counters, the appliance collects these samples. |
| Observed port occupancy | 90 days | The address that the appliance saw on each switch port. |
| Host identity links | 45 days | Links between a host name, an IP address and a hardware address. |
| Per-device command log | The latest 500 commands for each device | Records the scheduled read commands for each network device. |
| Database snapshots | One snapshot each day. The appliance keeps 14. | By default, the appliance stores snapshots on the database disk. See How Devexana is delivered. |
| Audit log and egress log | No purge function | The appliance records and refuses requests to delete audit records. See The audit log. |
At each read, the appliance updates records from sources, such as tickets, assets and configurations. This page does not give a period for them. To ask about a type of record that is not in the table, send an email to support@devexana.com.
What the daily snapshots do not include
The daily snapshot holds the encrypted database and its search index. These files are not in the snapshot:
- the environment file of the appliance;
- the database key file;
- the configuration files for your site, for example the site profile;
- credentials that are held outside the database;
- the model files.
You cannot restore a snapshot without its original key. Agree with Devexana who keeps a protected copy of the database key. See How Devexana is delivered.
