“The assistant says it has no local record”

Find why the assistant has no local record for a question. Check which records and sources can supply an answer.

The cloud escalation offer

The answer "I don't have a local record that answers that." means that the assistant found no stored record that supports an answer. This answer is deliberate. It is not a fault.

Symptoms

The answer says "I don't have a local record that answers that."

What happened

The assistant found no stored record that supports an answer. Devexana can also remove names or dates that are not in the records. When nothing usable remains, you see this answer.

Why

The record that holds the answer is not on the appliance, or the question does not match it. See the table above.

What to do

  1. Open the Connectors page.
  2. Find the source that should contain the relevant record.
  3. If the source is missing, connect it.
  4. If the relevant record is in a document, import the document. See Import files, port maps and DHCP leases.
  5. If the source is there, read its health state. See Source health states.
  6. Ask again with the exact identifier from the record. For example, use the host name or ticket number.

If this does not fix it

Send an email to support@devexana.com. Include the question, the time you asked it and the name of the source that should hold the answer.

The answer offers a live check

What happened

The answer says that no local record answers the question, and it offers a read-only live check.

Why

The question depends on current device state, for example the state of a switch port now. That state is not stored.

What to do

  1. Read the live check offer.
  2. If you agree, accept the live check.
  3. Read the new answer.

The live check runs read-only commands. The live check runs only after you accept its offer.

If this does not fix it

If the live check fails, see A switch is listed but not read. Then send the question, the time and the live check result to support@devexana.com.

The answer is shorter than expected and has a note

What happened

The answer has a note that says names or dates were removed. Or a note marks the answer as uncertain.

Why

Devexana removes person names and dates that are not in the source records. Devexana adds a note when other details are uncertain and lowers the confidence of the answer.

What to do

  1. Open the citations of the answer.
  2. Compare the answer with the records. See Check an answer against its sources.
  3. Ask a narrower question that names the record you need.

If this does not fix it

Send an email to support@devexana.com. Include the question, the answer, the note and the titles of the cited records.

The answer offers to ask a cloud model

What happened

The answer offers to send the question to a cloud model.

Why

Devexana enabled cloud escalation for your deployment. Cloud model requests use Devexana's zero-data-retention (ZDR) agreement on AWS. Devexana records each request in the egress log. Cloud escalation is off by default.

What to do

  1. Read what the offer will send.
  2. Decide if the question can leave the appliance under your organization's rules.
  3. If your organization's rules permit sending the question, accept the offer.

Cloud escalation sends the question only after you accept its offer. Cloud escalation does not send your stored records. See Outbound connections: the complete list.

If this does not fix it

Send an email to support@devexana.com. Include the question and the time of the offer.
